Scones are a lot easier to make; split in half, filled with some homemade labneh (yogurt cheese) and a drizzle of olive oil is exactly what a Lebanese expat needs. The cheese most often used in manakeesh is a white salty cheese known as akawi. Occasionally a milder cheese called Nabulsi is used.

Zaatar and cheese scones is one of the most popular of recent trending foods on earth. It’s simple, it’s fast, it tastes yummy. It is appreciated by millions every day. They are nice and they look wonderful. Zaatar and cheese scones is something which I have loved my whole life.

The ingredients needed to make Zaatar and cheese scones:
  1. Take 2 cups bread flour
  2. Get 3 teaspoons baking powder
  3. Take 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. Get 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  5. Get 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  6. Prepare 150 ml milk
  7. Take 1 tablespoon butter
  8. Take 25 ml olive oil
  9. Take 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  10. Get Handful wild thyme
  11. Take 1 cup cottage cheese or soft feta cheese

I have used zaatar in various bread recipes and they go so well together. You can even use roasted paneer with zaatar. Gooey cheese, plenty of black forest ham, and fresh scallions all baked up in a flaky, buttery scone… I mean, does it get any better?! As mentioned earlier, these scones are really easy!

Steps to make Zaatar and cheese scones:
  1. Start with mixing the dry ingredients very well: flour, salt, black pepper, baking powder, garlic powder
  2. Add the butter and olive and mix with flour then rub it together with your fingertips to make a light breadcrumb texture
  3. Add the milk, creamy cheese, wild thyme and sesame seeds and mix until you get a nice dough
  4. Spear the in a circular shape on a baking tray, brush some milk over the top, sprinkle the sesame seeds and add some grated cheddar cheese if you like
  5. Put in a preheated oven at 200c for 10min until you get a golden brown top
  6. The first time I made it, the taste of zaatar was too strong because I added the thyme leaves as they were, but this time I used just a handful of the leaves and crushed them before adding them to the dough and the taste was just perfect 👌🏻
  7. Enjoy it for breakfast with a cup of tea or have it as an appetizer with you dinner 😊

To make them you're going to need flour, salt, black pepper, baking powder, baking soda, brown sugar, butter, an. Sprinkle half the cheese and zaatar evenly over the rolled out dough. If you prefer you may scatter some red pepper flakes. (Alternatively, the dough can be rolled out into a circle and cut triangles and make crescent shape rolls).
